How to get rid of skin tags at home is something you may have wondered. They are little, non-harmful bits of hanging extra skin that protrude and are very annoying. They are made of derma or fat and are entirely benign or noncancerous. Going to the physician for elimination can be costly and take up much of your time for visits and follow-up visits. Many people have discovered home remedies that work better than the medical method of cauterizing or freezing. Some of these home methods are less painful and cost next to nothing.
These lesions are usually caused by friction. For example, some people get them on their necks from tight collars, necklaces or seat belts. Pregnant woman get them because of increased hormones in their system and overweight people tend to be susceptible more than thinner people. Chances are, if your mother or father had them, you will too.
The doctor will happily remove these bumps but it won’t be cheap. Some Insurance policies no longer covers the removal of tags because they are considered cosmetic so you either need to pay out of pocket or find another way to remove the skin tags. The physician will either freeze it off or burn it off and both methods are extremely painful. Most people probably have their growths removed after a single session. But in rare cases, multiple visits are required.
A home remedy used by many is the tying method. Tying the tag at the base will cause blood to no longer reach the spot and the tag will eventually dry up and drop off. The blood will stop flowing to the head and eventually the bump will scab up and flake off. This method can be painful and it is sometimes awkward and impossible to actually tie something on your own body.
Clear nail polish is another home remedy used on skin tags. Just a few brush strokes a day for a few days and the tag will flake off. Nail polish is much less expensive than wart removal products or the new skin tag removal systems, but they basically do the same thing.
Research has shown that the most preferred and natural method of tag elimination is a cotton ball soaked in apple vinegar. It was suggested that a cotton ball be soaked in the vinegar, apply it to the spot and affix it with a band-aid overnight. You may have to do this for a few evenings but many have reported that this method is completely painless and the bump will be gone in only a few days.
One final home remedy is cutting the lesion off with a razor, scissors or nail clippers. With this method, you need to be sure and sterilize the razor, scissors, clippers or whatever tool you are using. Before you cut you need to wipe the area with rubbing alcohol, as well as wiping the tool you are using. You will bleed and it will hurt. After cutting, you should clean the wound with hydrogen peroxide and cover it with antibacterial ointment until it properly scabs up and heals.
There are many methods to remove skin tags. At the doctors office they will cauterize or burn it off or they might freeze it off. Don’t forget about home remedies, which are also very effective. Tying the tag, clear nail polish and apple vinegar are just a sample of some of the remedies people use at home to remove skin tags.
